I bought this album pretty much when it came out, following the hype behind it. I soon realised that it actually really wasn't that good. Save for a couple of tracks (I would say Still Dre, What's The Difference, Some LA) all the tracks had something annoying about them e.g. the inclusion of some particularly annoying rappers. Two I can think of are Devin the Dude and Kurupt, these guys are just annoying as anything, Devin sounds like goofy teenager that somehow has managed to get himself on the rap scene and Kurupt's lyrics are just annoying and horrible.
The majority of the album's topic and lyrics are taken up by the objectification and degradation of women and the taking of drugs. I found it pretty disgusting and don't see how any women could ever like this album. As I said in my review title, don't get me wrong the beats and production of this album are excellent, if only they could have got the rappers and lyrical topics right.

Truly a great album. The first time I listened to this I had to hit the repeat button. The album is excellently produced like you would expect from Dre. It rolls like a story. Strong from start to finish. A true bench mark that all rap albums will be judged by.

2001 is easily one of the most influential, trendsetting and important albums in west coast rap/hip-hop. Bringing west coast into the 21st century. If you like this sort of music then its got to be in your stack. Dre's 'The Chronic' is equaly as good and worth having too, just alot more old skool than this. Some great skits too giving the album a humourous edge to boot. Anyone giving it a 1 star should go buy some Vanilla Ice. ;)
